Parts of a plant (6th June)
The children's knowledge of plants!


The maple group explored parts of a plant using a felt diagram.
They recognised:
“That's the stem”
“Leaves”
“Brown dirt”
“There are pink petals”
“I see seeds”




We went through each part of the flower (roots, pot, stem, leaves, petals, seeds)
The children really enjoyed using the felt flower parts to create the whole flower.



We then recreated our felt flower using paper to make maple groups flower. Each child had a role to play. It was like a jigsaw each child completed their individual piece and then it came together as a group to create a beautiful flower.
Argon: flower pot
Alenna:leaf and petal
Ellen: petal
Kaspar: seeds
Lina: roots
Elise: stem and leaf
Emma:petal
All the parts then came together to create a flower.

All of the children then shared with the group a piece of knowledge they have about plants.
The ideas gathered were:
“Flowers have petals”
“Flowers needs sun and water to grow”
“I have yellow flowers at my house”
“Plants live in the garden”
“When the seeds fall on the ground they turn into new flower”
“You can eat plants: strawberries, carrots, apples and salmonberries”
“The roots soak up all the water from the ground”
“In the flower pot you have brown dirt”
“Tees in our forest”
All the children at creative minds focus on what it means to be a community of learners. Knowledgeable learners explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance such as the needs to keep to paths so that the plants are not damaged. Through these explorations and experiences they acquire in-depth knowledge and develop understanding about the world and in particular our local Pacific Spirit Park and neighbourhood homes and gardens.
